faillies (failure allies)
It all begins with an idea.
Here are some of my faillies (or failure allies), who have helped reframe failure for me. I hope that you will find them just as helpful. If you have a quote or link to your own failly, feel free to share on the contact page. This page will be continually updated upon discovery.
sara blakely
Sara Blakely (founder of Spanx) has frequently discussed how when she was a teenager her father gave her Dr. Wayne Dyer’s How to Be a No-Limit Person tapes, which she listened to on repeat. She has also mentioned how her father not only encouraged trying new things, but demanded failure, and how she encourages failing at Spanx.
tim ferriss
Tim has changed my paradigms from thinking ever since reading The Four Hour Work Week and listening to his podcast. Whenever I’m plagued by fear, I go to his fear-setting framework and instantly feel better. If you want to relieve pressures about decisions you’re contemplating in a logical, systematic way, this will help. (Also if you’re feeling stuck in a rut, go to his lifestyle costing, which is similarly systematic and will propel you to plan your next adventure).
sarah silverman
In a podcast episode of the Tim Ferriss Show (minute 31) Sarah Silverman brilliantly advises how to succeed in basketball and comedy by shooting shot after shot after shot, and by not carrying the weight of a 100 missed shots every time you miss one as a woman. The advice is just as perfect for anyone wanting to make or do anything that isn’t 100% guaranteed and takes practice to get better. (So… everyone?). This podcast episode (and this podcast overall) changed my life.
