week 32

goal setting & scheduling

I am going to live by the “no more than 5 projects” rule, for the next three months especially. The rule implies that you cannot be effective if you have any more than 5 projects going at one time, and projects can include any house projects/ family focus/ etc. — basically, anything that takes up any time, focus and energy. I am going to try to scale to 4 projects over the next three months and try to simplify them to basic building blocks each week. It is so hard to not add a 5th project, but honestly my 5th project is my job/ family responsibilities, none of which are insignificant (not to mention this blog).

I am focusing on developing one strong screenplay and TV pilot to add to my collective portfolio (each a separate project), training for the 5k Day of the Dead race, and starting to think about nutrition in small, simple steps (starting with focusing on eating 1 fruit and 1 vegetable daily in August, 2 of each daily in September, and 3 of each daily in October). There is so, so, so much more I want to work on, but these are the few goals I think I can realistically accomplish (especially at the start of the school year which is a crazy time). When I am tempted to add more, I remind myself that I would be disappointed if I didn’t accomplish these goals because I was too busy jumping around from project to project instead of spending a few weeks focusing on a few key projects.
